The Big Event is one big day of service that connected the University of Delaware community with the local Newark, Delaware community. The Big Event held aspirations to connect the two communities through engaging the hearts of our UD students through community service that uplift, support, and benefit the local Newark, Delaware community.

committee member
As a committee member for the Community Outreach efforts, I emailed organizations in the Newark community that would benefit from having University of Delaware students coming to their site to assist with anything. I emailed organizations such as Newark Arts Alliance to engage their local organization with UD.
I had the opportunity to sit in on a Civic Engagement meeting where I met local Newark leaders and requested for their involvement in providing a service opportunity for our UD students for The Big Event.

As Site Leader, I directed volunteers to one of the parks to clean-up. Under my eye, I not only supervised UD students but also an elderly couple from Newark, Delaware! Carol's husband, after the event, would send us all students his poetry as "Thank You" for aiding the community. I also bumped into them randomly one day as they were walking their dog and they recognized me, showcasing the connections the one big day of service created.
